Gold Hunter Resources Advances the Comprehensive Great Northern Project in Newfoundland
Introduction
Gold Hunter Resources Inc. is excited to announce significant progress on its Great Northern Project (GNP), located in the White Bay area of Newfoundland.
Covering
23,891
Hectares
the GNP encompasses the Viking and Jackson's Arm Properties, offering substantial gold mineralization potential. This project is a key component of Gold Hunter's strategic focus on high-value, resource-rich areas.
Unlocking the Golden Potential
Strategic Interests and Advances Exploration in Newfoundland's Great Northern
Property and Ownership
Through strategic agreements with Magna Terra Minerals Inc. and various other property holders, Gold Hunter has the option to earn a 100% interest in the GNP, which comprises 955 mineral claims primarily situated on provincial Crown land. This robust option agreement positions Gold Hunter to leverage significant mineral resources and expand its exploration footprint.
Historical Exploration
The exploration history of the GNP dates back to the early 1900s, beginning with the historic Browning Mine. Throughout the late 20th century, companies such as Noranda Exploration Company Limited and Esso Minerals Canada conducted extensive surveys and drilling programs. These efforts led to the discovery of several key deposits, including the Rattling Brook Gold Deposit (RBGD) and the Thor Deposit. These historical activities laid the groundwork for the comprehensive exploration programs currently being implemented by Gold Hunter.
Geology and Mineralization
The geological setting of the GNP is characterized by granitoid gneisses intruded by both older granitoid bodies and late Proterozoic mafic and ultramafic dikes. The Thor Deposit, a focal point of the Viking Property, features mesothermal quartz ± iron carbonate ± sulfide veins and stockworks within altered Precambrian intrusive rocks. The deposit hosts 5.46 million tonnes at an average grade of 1.45 g/t Au, with both extensive high-grade gold zones and broad low-grade halos. This geological diversity underscores the significant resource potential of the GNP.
Exploration and Drilling
The Viking Property has undergone extensive exploration, with 253 drill holes totaling 36,181.8 meters. These drilling programs have delineated several promising gold-bearing trends, including the Viking Trend, Thor's Cross, Asgard Trend, Kramer Trend, Loki Trend, and Viking North Trend. Similarly, the Jackson's Arm Property has seen 215 drill holes totaling 30,772 meters, identifying key mineralized trends such as the Incinerator, Furnace, and Jackson's Arm Trends.
Overview and Highlights
Great Northern Project
The Great Northern Project is situated near Sops Arm, Pollard’s Point, and Jackson’s Arm, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Project encompasses a 40 km section of the Doucers Valley Fault, a key geological feature known to host numerous gold occurrences, including the Thor and Rattling Brook Deposits, historic Browning Mine and at least twelve mineralized trends throughout the project area. Gold mineralization is hosted in various lithologies, from Precambrian or Ordovician granites to younger volcanic and sedimentary rocks, typically found along splays off the Doucers Valley Fault.
The Doucers Valley Fault extends from Ireland to New Brunswick and plays a crucial role in the region’s geology. This fault system, part of a larger network associated with the closing of the Iapetus Ocean, has influenced mineralization patterns across Newfoundland. Multiple reactivation phases of the fault have contributed to the region’s rich mineral deposits, including those on the Great Northern Project.
01
Potential and Initial Exploration
Gold Hunter expects the district’s geological database to be ready in weeks. The company will then plan its initial exploration program, with drilling set to start this summer.
Future Exploration Plans
Strategic Exploration
Gold Hunter is consolidating geological data from various sources and has enlisted Magna Terra Minerals Inc. and Mercator Geological Services. Mercator will complete an NI 43-101 report and establish a comprehensive geological database.
02
Prime Infrastructure
Gold Hunter’s projects benefit from year-round infrastructure and support from local communities. The region offers a skilled workforce and easy access to consultants through Gold Hunter’s 20+ years of experience in Newfoundland.
03
Community Backing
With over a century of mining history, northwestern Newfoundland boasts strong community support for mining. Early operations shaped the area’s economy, making it a welcoming place for new ventures.
The Great Northern Project
Represents a significant opportunity for Gold Hunter Resources Inc. to advance its gold exploration efforts in Newfoundland
The company's strategic approach and commitment to thorough exploration will drive the project's success, positioning Gold Hunter as a leader in the resource sector.
